SUICIDE WATCH IN PRISON

Today I found out one of my good friends here was put on suicide watch. She is a Christian friend, who has been struggling lately. I don't know all the details in her case, but my heart breaks for her.

Prison is hard folks. For someone who doesn't have a lot of time, it's not too bad. For those who have long sentences or life it's a constant mental battle. In prison you are guilty until proven innocent. The problem with that is that in many situations it's the correction officer's word against the inmate's. If you don't have a staff witness or a camera, it's impossible to prove your innocence. Sometimes officers target you, other inmates can falsely accuse you just because they don't like you, and medical can take months to give you life saving treatments. Threats of violence are always on your mind as you can be in a room with violent inmates.

The mental pressures can be immense. I remember when I had to ask for protective custody back in November. For over a month I tried to make things work with my new roommates. The mental anguish was so intense I knew it wouldn't be long before I had a mental breakdown.

If you think of her, please pray for my friend. I know she would appreciate your prayers.
