RELEASED INTO THE UNKNOWN

Three inmates from my housing unit were released today. Two of them had only been here a few years, but one lady was leaving after being here for fifteen years.

I can't imagine how she felt. I know she was thrilled and yet terrified at the same time. The world on the outside has changed a lot in fifteen years. One of my friends here has been incarcerated for over twenty years, and she doesn't know what a text message is. Imagine how she would react to a smart home!!

Not a single inmate plans on returning to prison once they are released, but so many do return time after time. Support groups can be so fundamental. So what can you do? Be a friend, help them find a job, give them a ride, invite them to church, and be a support. Maybe you can make a difference in an ex-felon's life.

"But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd." Matthew 9:36
